Light

Light has always been my favorite metaphor

I cranked up the music this morning as I made pancakes and love these lyrics " So let hope rise/And darkness tremble/In Your holy light/That every eye will see/ Jesus our God..."

Through the deck doors I witness autumn's morning light filtering through the maples and backdropped by bright blue sky.

"Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising." Isaiah 60: 1-3

"And God said, Let there be light : and there was light. " Genesis 1

"He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death." Job 12:22

"For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." Psalm 36:9

"The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple." Psalm 119:30 (ESV)

"The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." Isaiah 9:2

"The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. " Isaiah 60:19-20

"... 'The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.' From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4: 16-17

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14 (ESV)

"For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel." - Simeon, Luke 2:30-32

"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:4-5, (ESV)

"The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world." John 1:9 (ESV)

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. " John 3:19

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12

"To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. " Acts 26:18

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:6

"that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world," Phillipians 2:15 (NKJV)

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the
Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17 (ESV)

"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness
into His marvelous light;" 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)

"
God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:5-7

"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as u
nto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:" 2 Peter 1:9

"And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it:
for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there." Revelation 21:23-25

"And
there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever." Revelation 22:5
