Favorite Birds

I took this pic on the inland waterway
at Daytona Beach this past October.

Leslie's daughter is graphing birds over at their family blog Hilaritas. She needs more data for a good graph so go vote for one of her options.

It captured my whim, so while you're at it, tell me your favorite bird(s). At home I love to watch for bluebirds and hummingbirds. But I love water birds, especially egrets. And watching pelicans dive, sandpipers run along the shore, and feading seagulls are some of my favorite beach activities.

We keep two bird feeders up all year. One is for finches and the other is for all the other birds. We see lots of morning doves, blue jays, cardinals, chickadees, and robins. We've also seen several woodpeckers, though they don't come near our feeders. They're usually up on the power poles. In the spring we pull out our hummingbird feeder and fill it up. Those hummingbirds are the most fun to watch! They're amazing! Occassionally, we are blessed with hearing the cry of a red-tailed hawk. Karl has seen it swoop across our yard before, but I've only heard it. We enjoy birds. I'm not sure if I have a favorite--they are all so interesting in their own way.

My favorite bird is the peregrine falcon. The coolest part about that is there are many falcons around here, and I'm pretty sure I've seen a peregrine once or twice.
